Hello, and welcome to your template to evaluate the impact of your SciComm projects. I’m very happy that you’ve decided to ramp up your science communication efforts to understand how your work is impacting your audience.
If you’re new to Notion, I highly recommend the official Notion resources and videos to help you get started. At first, Notion may seem a bit overwhelming, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a brilliant time‑saver and project management tool.
Before starting to set up your projects, duplicate the template into your own Notion dashboard. The button to do so in in the tope right corner. You may have to sign up for Notion to be able to use the entire dashboard efficiently.
To start, set up the project you want to track using the template. I’ve added an example project so you can see what this looks like; open it to view Objective, Goals, Milestones and a filled metrics table. Feel free to delete it once you’ve finished setting up the tracker. First, add the title of your project to the database below and fill in the essentials:
Next, open the database entry and fill in Objective, Goals and Milestones. In the table inside the database entry, add the metrics and indicators you want to track, the dates when to track them, as well as the method and target values. Set a Baseline for each metric before you publish the project.
Set ‘Next check date’ on the project to your first planned measurement (for example, publish day or +7 days). After you record Actual, move ‘Next check date’ to the next follow‑up. You’ll receive a reminder on the day to make sure you don’t miss it.
Over time, this will help you track what matters for your project so you can understand what works and how to improve. If you collect survey responses, include a short consent note and avoid storing personal data in Notion.
At the end of the project, pick Outcome result stars to summarise the project overall: ★☆☆☆☆ Missed • ★★☆☆☆ Below target • ★★★☆☆ Met • ★★★★☆ Above target • ★★★★★ Exceeded.
Now it’s over to you to track your projects and make an impact with your research. Head back to your Your SciComm Impact Dashboard dashboard to see Active projects and due checks.
